Ways to Cook Flank Steak

While not as popular as other meat cuts, the different ways to cook flank steak will show how flavorful it can be. As with all steak recipes, you should have all the ingredients ready to expedite the process.

Grilling Flank Steak


3 tbsp of peanut oil
1/3 cup of lemon juice
½ tbsp of chopped jalapeno
2 tsp of garlic (minced)
½ tsp of pepper
½ tsp of salt
1 tsp chili powder


Gather all the ingredients (except the steak) in a bowl or bag. When it’s mixed, add the steaks. Place the bowl in the fridge. Keep this marinade in the fridge for at least a day. 48 hours is recommended. Preheat the grill.

Take off the meat from the marinade. Set it on the grill. Cook for 4 minutes. Flip it and cook the other side (4 minutes too).

This is one of the quickest ways to cook flank steak, and the results are tasty. If the steak is rare, put it in the microwave and cook for half a minute.

Braising Flank Steak

Basically the process involves cooking the meat with a bit of moistened heat. You can use marinade sauce. Using the marinade will soften the meat. Turn the skillet to a low heat level.


Diced tomatoes (14 oz)
1 bell pepper
Onion (diced)
Sliced tomatoes (8 oz)
3 garlic clove
Flank steaks


Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Let everything simmer until the meat is tenderized. This should take about 90 minutes or so. When it’s cooked, serve it with some rice or potatoes. Although it isn’t one of the fast ways to cook flank steak, the result is very satisfactory.

Flank Steak with Red Wine


Half a cup of soy sauce
1/3 cup of red wine
Flank steaks
¼ tsp olive oil
Lemon juice
2 tbsp of honey
½ inch of ginger
1 garlic clove


Combine all the ingredients in a zip lock bag. Put in the steak last. Keep the steak in the marinade for 2 ½ hours. You can also
keep the steak in the marinade for two days.

Discard the marinade and cook the meat for 8 minutes. Flip it and grill the other side for 8 minutes too. Using this way to cook flank steak, you’ll need to rest the meat for a couple of minutes after cooking.

Flank Steak with Madeira Wine


1/3 cup of Madeira wine
1/3 cup of olive oil
A dash of salt
1/3 tsp of black pepper
1 tbsp of lemon juice
¼ cup of soy sauce
4 cloves of garlic
½ tsp of marjoram
1 tbsp of butter


Put all the ingredients (minus the butter) in a bag. Put it in the fridge for 12 hours. Turn the bag over four times. Remove the steak from the sauce and grill it. Use hardwood coals and baste it with the marinade. Cook for 10 minutes on each side.

When it’s cooked, pour the rest of the marinade in a saucepan. Mix in the butter and serve with the steak. With so many ways to cook flank steaks, you’ll never run out of recipes again.
