Ways to Remove Corns

Ways to Remove Corns

There are many ways to remove corns. Whether the corn is hard or soft, there are several proven methods you can use to get rid of it. You can try any of the following techniques to see which works best for you.

Take off the Pressure

Corn is caused by pressure on the skin. Corn on the feet is the result of ill-fitting shoes. By changing your shoes, the corn won’t grow and eventually, it will disappear.

Corn, almost invariably, grows on the feet. But if it grows somewhere else, relieve the pressure that is causing it. Most of the time, it is due to ill-fitting clothing.

Self-treatment and Medication

There are several fast ways to remove corns without going to the doctor. One way is to put a patch with salicylic acid on it. There are lots of products that sell these patches. You can look for them in the stores.

If you have corns, the best treatment is still to just change shoes. Make sure that it is wide enough so that the toes or the space between the toes is not affected. You can also put pads in your shoes to ease the pressure.

Going to the Doctor

A podiatrist can get rid of the corns in many ways. One option is to burn them off using special chemicals containing acid. Others may use a scalpel to eliminate the corn. Please note that the scalpel is specially designed for removing corn. This is one of the best ways to remove corns, but it is not something you should do by yourself.

In rare cases, corns are caused by structural deficiencies in the toes. This will need surgery to be corrected.

In some cases, the doctor may prescribe skin medications to eliminate them. You may also find some over-the-counter medication to remove them.

Alternative Treatments

Some people have resorted to using herbal medication to eliminate corns. Among the most popular ones are licorice, papaya, lemon and green figs. All you need to do is to take the herb and apply it to the affected area. Some people also find applying some ice, helpful.

Tips and Warnings

Those with diabetes should see a doctor prior to using any of these ways to remove corns. Although corns aren’t serious, it can be gangrenous if not removed properly. If you don’t want to go to a doctor, buy a callus remover.

This is usually available in beauty stores. First, you immerse your toes in lukewarm water. Afterwards, use the callus remover. You will need to scrape it several times before the corn can be removed completely.

Other treatments you can use include plaster and corn paint. Keep in mind though that these are only temporary solutions. Unless you address the problem (i.e., what is actually causing the corns), it will keep coming back. Only by going after the source will you get rid of the corns completely.

These are some of the best ways to remove corns. By using any of these methods, you won’t have to deal with the pain or embarrassment of having corns, any longer.
